A new combination function in evidence theory
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper studies the combination of basic probability assignment (bpa) in evidence theory. After introducing an interpretation of the mass function we show that given two bpa Dempster's rule of combination does not build a coherent bpa with respect to the interpretation. Next we give a new combination function that overcomes this problems and study some of its properties. 0. Introduction One of the models of approximate reasoning is evidence theory8,9 where the knowledge over a frame of discernment θ is expressed by means of belief and plausibility measures. They are functions from (θ) (i.e., parts of θ) into [0,1]. In particular, a belief measure, Bel, should satisfy the following axioms7: (i) Bel(Ø)=0 and Bel(θ)=1 (ii) For every A, B (θ), if A∏B then Bel(A)=Bel(B) (iii) Bel(A1 ≈ A2 ≈ ... ≈ An) = ? i Bel(Ai) ? i<j Bel(Ai ↔ Aj) +...+ (-1) n+1 Bel(A1↔A2↔...↔An), for all nM. On the other hand, a plausibility measure, Pl, should satisfy (i), (ii) and also (iii)': (iii)' Pl(A1 ↔ A2 ↔ ... ↔ An) = ? i Pl(Ai) ? i<j Pl(Ai ≈ Aj) +...+ (-1) n+1 Pl(A1≈A2≈...≈An), for all nM. In fact, belief and plausibility measures are related to each other. For each belief measure Bel, it can be defined a plausibility measure Pl in the following way: Pl(A)=1 Bel(Ac) for all A in (A), where Ac is the complement of A.

متن کاملOn the Path to UHC – Global Evidence Must Go Local to Be Useful; Comment on “Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Is Published: A Theory of Change Is Needed for Translating Evidence to Health Policy”
The Disease Control Priorities (DCP) publications have pioneered new ways of thinking about investing in health. We agree with Norheim, that a useful first step to advance efforts to translate DCP’s global evidence into local health priorities, is to develop a clear Theory of Change (ToC). However, a ToC that aims to define how global evidence (DCP and others) can be used to inform national pol...
متن کاملAPPLICATION OF KRIGING METHOD IN SURROGATE MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK FOR OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS
In this paper, Kriging has been chosen as the method for surrogate construction. The basic idea behind Kriging is to use a weighted linear combination of known function values to predict a function value at a place where it is not known. Kriging attempts to determine the best combination of weights in order to minimize the error in the estimated function value. Because the actual function value...
متن کاملbelief function and the transferable belief model
Beliefs are the result of uncertainty. Sometimes uncertainty is because of a random process and sometimes the result of lack of information. In the past, the only solution in situations of uncertainty has been the probability theory. But the past few decades, various theories of other variables and systems are put forward for the systems with no adequate and accurate information. One of these a...
